All About the IELTS One Skill Retake

IELTS

We're here to help you achieve your full potential!

The IELTS test assesses your proficiency in all four IELTS skills – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking – and ensures you possess a well-rounded ability to understand and communicate effectively in various contexts. Each IELTS band score reflects your ability to navigate daily life situations and engage in academic or professional environments, with higher scores indicating greater confidence and complexity.

If you have taken the IELTS test and find yourself not achieving the score that you need for one specific skill only – be it Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking, don’t worry! IELTS now offers the groundbreaking IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) option.

The IELTS OSR is an innovative way for you to retake one of the four skills, allowing you to showcase your true potential and achieve the language proficiency requirements for your study, employment, or immigration to help you get one step closer to your dream!

Who Can Take The IELTS One Skill Retake?

Presently, IELTS One Skill Retake is offered to IELTS on Computer test takers in select locations and countries, including IDP Education and British Council test centers in the Philippines.

While this option is currently unavailable for IELTS on Paper and IELTS Online, efforts are actively underway to expand its availability in the future.

Before booking your first IELTS test, it is best to check if your chosen test center offers the One Skill Retake option, and confirm with your institution if they accept the One Skill Retake Test Report Form. Taking these proactive steps allow you to focus on improving a specific skill later, if needed, for a more targeted approach to boosting your overall IELTS score.

When Should You Take The IELTS One Skill Retake?

Once you receive your official electronic IELTS Test Report Form, check if your scores meet the requirements set by your institution. If they do, congratulations! You're well on your way!

However, if you fell short of the desired score in one of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking), you may book and sit for the IELTS One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original IELTS test.

Keep in mind that you are allowed to retake one skill only once per original test. Therefore, if you have already taken the IELTS One Skill Retake for a full IELTS test, you cannot request another IELTS One Skill Retake on the same full test.

How Can You Book The IELTS One Skill Retake?

To book your IELTS One Skill Retake and improve one specific result, log in to your IELTS account, find your recent IELTS result, and click on the 'Retake' button for the skill that you would like to retake. The IELTS OSR fee applies.

Will You Receive A New IELTS Test Report Form?

Yes. You will receive a new IELTS One Skill Retake Test Report Form accessible and downloadable from your IELTS account.

The new OSR Test Report Form will clearly state that it is the IELTS One Skill Retake result. It will display the original results for the other three sections from the original test and will reflect the updated score for the retaken section. This information will also be indicated on the IELTS Results Verification Service.

A paper Test Report Form will not be issued by default.

Which Test Report Form Is Valid?

Both your original IELTS Test Report Form, containing the original scores for the four skills, and the updated IELTS Test Report Form, which includes the IELTS One Skill Retake score, remain valid. The original result will coexist with the new result.
